And here I've been coming up with something different each time.

[He gives a small, amused huff, pulling Royce closer.]

I was gonna do "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".

[bywolves]

[ Royce smiles, wrapping an arm around Alfie's waist. ]

You still can. I'd love to hear that from you.

[devoutish]

Well, I'm not gonna sing it.

[He'd totally sing it if Royce asked him to.]

[bywolves]

It's funnier if you just say it rather than sing it, anyway.

[devoutish]

I'll tell him I made it up, shall I? Wrote it meself, on the way over.

[bywolves]

[ Royce looks amused. ]

Sure. I'd be surprised if someone had never used that rhyme before, but go ahead.

[ They're coming up on the rec center, anyway. Royce dislodges himself just enough to open the door for Alfie. ]

[devoutish]

[He murmurs a thanks, catching it for Royce once he's through.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce reaches to hold onto Alfie's hand tightly before making his way in. He gives his elvish poem, just a line or two. He gestures for Alfie to go ahead. ]

[devoutish]

[Very seriously, he recites:]

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star; how I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high, like a diamond int he sky".

[Apparently it's good enough, because he gets his coffee, just like Royce.]

[bywolves]

[ It makes Royce laugh, quietly. He sips his coffee happily - he's mostly just glad he can taste it at all - and waits for Alfie to rejoin him. And once he has, Royce hums from under his like, eighteen layers: ]

Are you up for a visit to the Islands?

[devoutish]

Are you?

[He asks, giving in to a little bit of fussing.]

[bywolves]

[ He smiles a bit. ]

Yeah. It's warm there. I feel better, mostly. Just sniffing. I'll make it.

[devoutish]

Will we sail?

[bywolves]

Mmhm. I can work a sailboat.

I'd like to see the glowing crystals closer up. I have a bag I put together for us, too. It's out by the beach already.

[devoutish]

[Alfie smiles, leaning in to bump shoulders.]

Yeah. Yeah, let's do it, then; let's go.

[bywolves]

[ Royce looks relieved, almost, when Alfie agrees. Like maybe he was expecting a no. Pleased, he takes Alfie's hand and leads him out, towards the beach. ]

[devoutish]

[Holding his coffee with one hand and Royce with the other, he's happy to follow.]

And sailing the boat at night, in the dark - you can do that, too?

[bywolves]

[ Royce raises his eyebrow, glancing back at Alfie. Does that even merit a response? Of course he can. He can see in the dark. Huff. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie flashes him another quick grin.]

Of course. I know how good your eyesight is for myself now, don't I?

[bywolves]

Yeah. Yeah, I suppose you do. [ Royce says after a moment, smiling again. ] You haven't told me much about how you liked being an elf. I suspect you may have had more ability than I do, if you were a full one.

[devoutish]

I feel much more graceful than I do normally. Light on my feet and all.

[bywolves]

Yeah. I'd forgotten how easy it was just to move, when we were in Norfinbury. [ A beat, and then he stops just briefly in order to curl up against Alfie's side again as they walk.

Alfie might notice him staring at the snowbanks around them for just a little too long. ]

Did the hearing bother you?

[devoutish]

[Alfie lets go of Royce's hand so that he can drape his arm fully around Royce's shoulders.]

Nah. Just took a bit of getting used to, that's all.

[bywolves]

[ He settles close, sipping from his coffee. ]

Ever thought about wishing for it here? Any of that.

[devoutish]

Extra senses? Can't say that I have, no. What needs would I have for them?
