[ Royce just snorts, kneeing Alfie in the side gently. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie digs his heel into Royce's shin.]

Eat in the bed? Let's have dinner in bed.

[bywolves]

Mm. Dinner and the films. I want to watch what you brought.

[devoutish]

I brought The Lord of the Rings; we can watch a bit more of that. Also something that Watson was watching - James Bond.

[bywolves]

[ Yay, Lord of the Rings. Royce really enjoys that one. He reaches down off the side of the bed to grab his coffee, takes a sip, and then pulls himself up to go figure out the TV situation. ]

James Bond? What's that one?

[devoutish]

A man who fights criminals. Some sort of hero of Watson's.

[bywolves]

Ah. Surprising. I would have never guessed.

[devoutish]

When I walked in, he was saying the lines along with the film.

[bywolves]

[ Adorable. Royce grins a bit, even as he's going through the process of turning on the movie. ]

I taught him how to use a bow, the other day.

[devoutish]

Yeah? How'd it go?

[bywolves]

He's not half bad at it. [ The menu screen comes up, with the music playing, and Royce immediately turns it down. He likes the sort of orchestral part of it, though, pausing to listen. ]

I told him about home. With the elves. And Mercy.

[devoutish]

Yeah? Was he-- I dunno, good about it?

[bywolves]

Yeah. [ Royce reaches for his coffee with a little sigh. ] He's a better man than I gave him credit for originally.

Doesn't understand some things, and Sherlock's still an idiot that he needs to protect less. But I don't hate him like I did.

[devoutish]

Neither do I. He drives me up the fucking wall sometimes, though.

[bywolves]

Mm, me too. Has he been doing it to you here?

[devoutish]

A bit. Yeah. Not lately, but--

[Alfie makes grabby hands, at Royce and the food.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce starts the movie and then pulls himself up to the bed, food and his own self settling next to Alfie. ]

What did he do?

[devoutish]

It's how he talks about getting back to Norfinbury. "They're stuck there, I have to get back, I have to help them" - but he's got no plans for how he's gonna help. "I'll figure that out when I get back", he says, as if he hasn't got resources here that he should take advantage of while he has them. Landing himself back where he started isn't gonna help anyone but him.

[bywolves]

Heroism like that doesn't stop to think. Hadrian's the same way.

[devoutish]

I don't think it's pure heroism with Watson.

[bywolves]

What do you think it is, then?

[devoutish]

Boredom.

[bywolves]

Mm. Part of it is, I think. I think he doesn't feel useful enough here and that translates into boredom. Too much of his self is concentrated on being a tool for other people to use.
