Oi. That's not very fair, is it.

Only if she actually asks. Which I doubt she will. [ Nyehhh. ]

[Alfie makes a face right now. You can't stop him you're not his mom.]

[ Royce is not even looking up at him and he knows, which is why he pushes Alfie's face with his hand without even looking. ]

[devoutish]

Fuck off.

[He swats at his hand.]

No. [ Royce hums, nuzzling closer. You told him to get some rest, Alfie, so he's planning on it. ]

[devoutish]

[So unfair, Royce.]

You can't see it, but I'm still scowling at you.

[He's 100% smiling, and it's probably obvious in his voice.]

[bywolves]

Liar. [ Royce tells him, smiling a bit himself. ] You very rarely scowl at me when I'm practically in your lap.

[devoutish]

[It's true, but Alfie just makes another huffy little sound and pulls him closer.]

[bywolves]

[ Which Royce takes as an invitation to nap. He's full of good food and he's warm and safe - there's no way he can avoid dozing off, loosely clinging to Alfie's shirt without really realizing. ]

[xanthous]

[One day, three packages will arrive outside of the Solomons-Melborn-Kaldwin resident, with the one labelled "Alfiie" being the largest of them all.

Inside is a scarf - in the same green as the sweater Royce received earlier - as well as a sweater for Alfie in a simple charcoal grey. There is an acompanying hat in the same grey, striped with green, as well as a note.]

Wiinter here wiill be ea2iier than Norfiinbury, but every liittle biit help2.

[It's a surprise, and not a bad one. Xanthous is already hovering somewhere in the "positive-leaning neutral" range of Alfie's esteem, and this ticks him upwards a few notches.

A day or so after this, a well-wrapped loaf of babka shows up on Xan's doorstep, along with a note of his own.]

Much appreciated. Emily's especially. We'll put them to good use.

Bread is best eaten after it's been warmed on a hot stove for fifteen minutes.

[Left in the mailbox and wrapped in a few layers of paper in an attempt to keep it from freezing is a loaf of sweet bread filled with dried fruits]

We usually make this during the winter at home and it's usually shared! I hope you enjoy it. It's pretty sweet so I don't recommend eating it with your dinner. It's delicious for breakfast though!

[She does show up, more around midday and dressed in as much fluffy warm things as possible. She's a summer girl, this is all NONSENSE]

Knock knock? [She also actually knocks. She's a little ridiculous]

[Alfie comes to the door similarly bundled up, though obviously it's much warmer inside than it is outside. He has on thick socks and a gray winter sweater, and when he opens the door for her, he ushers her in quickly.]

Frightful out there, innit.

[furgood]

Utterly ridiculous amounts of snow. It's up to my waist off the paths.

[She pulls off a knit hat that had been squashed down over hair and brushes snow off her coat]

It's going to be a long couple months. At least I didn't have to dig myself out.
