I've never explained what would happen if I didn't go back, though. [ A beat. ] I got into the habit of thinking that time just... stopped. In Elan, where I came from. There are versions of me existing and not existing in so many places that it should be fine if at least one doesn't ever come back, right?

Yeah, but I don't much like that you've suddenly decided that the world will end if you don't go back, Royce.

[bywolves]

[ A long, long pause. ]

Hadrian is usually right about things like this. Morality things. That's all. [ Royce trusts his judgement, even when he gives him shit about it. ]

[devoutish]

It's not a morality thing. Whether or not the world will end without you isn't morality.

[bywolves]

I don't want to think that I'm that integral to a world existing.

When is your birthday? Blame Renart, now I'm super curious. Though I have a feeling you're one of those people who doesn't do anything for your birthday.

That's all much closer than mine. I'm August 4th. I think I missed it by a week or two when I arrived.

You'll have to guess at it here. Zephyr doesn't know dates, only days of the week.

Do you celebrate?

[furgood]

I do. Last year I did presents with my sister and went to a fancy dinner. Well. Last year is relative. Time is weird. I think it'll have been more like a year and a half since that birthday when this one rolls around. In my personal time.

Meowbe. But more impurrtantly, do you like anything in particular for your presents. I have... two months. If renarts date guessing is accurate.

[Rather than reply with a letter, she shows up at his place. She's a little curious honestly, but she knocks and waits. It's at this point that she realizes not answering ahead of time means he might not be home.]

[Luckily, he is indeed there when she arrives, and answers the knock readily, ushering her through the door.]

[She beams and walks in, biting her lip to hold back a grin. She's acting a little different than she used to, not always orienting herself towards him to catch anything he says, but it's only noticeable if one is really looking. She's still polite enough--and in enough of a habit, to keep her eyes on him]

Tea would be lovely. I didn't bring anything to eat with this time, I should have grabbed something.

[devoutish]

Tea it is, then.

[He bustles off to the kitchen, turning to look over his shoulder to speak so that she can read his lips.]

What's this about Renart figuring out the dates, then?

Well she seemed to have a fairly good idea of when her birthday was. Maybe I was projecting? I was kind of guessing with Halloween but most people seemed to agree. Maybe they do with the seasons? Don't those come on purrticular dates?

[devoutish]

Yeah, we can guess at the month that way. I suppose I was hoping somebody had found their way to a proper calendar.
