That fucking board. I don't see why anyone looks to it as a place for proper discussion. He doesn't like our choice, no, but it wasn't his choice, was it.

Would you like to look at one of the books ahead of time?

Maybe. Not to know everything ahead of time but to... Understand what this is about and why it's important and all that. I like to know.

You've told me about Jews but I don't think Egypt. Is it near London or far?

Very far. It's way off in the east, in the desert. It's where the Jewish people were kept in slavery, back in biblical times, and Passover - Passover celebrates our liberation.

[furgood]

Oh. Oh. I didn't know that... Well that makes something you once said make a little more sense. Not make more sense but--it certainly informs it.

It does bother me. But it all ties in together, doesn't it. Thinking he's got a right to go on about his opinions on something that's got nothing to do with him, acting as if the board isn't something that anyone can stumble across--

[ He nods in understanding. ] It bothered Royce too. You're both technically his patients, aren't you? [ Since the entire Meadous population probably count as Dr. Watson's patients — and it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume he's likely treated the Norfinbury ones before. ] That's why I was surprised to see it.

What something are you thinking of?

I don't consider myself to be; not at the moment. I have been in the past, though, and Royce has as well. Truthfully, the bit about him being a doctor doesn't make it bother me any more or less.

[furgood]

You once said your people, who eat your bread, weren't treated well. And this, celebrating it on the same day as it always was is important and...I don't know, it just feels like I connected a few dots in the grand picture of your religion.

[devoutish]

I do still wish that I could do that - celebrate it on the proper day.

[furgood]

What made you change your mind? About celebrating it regardless.

[devoutish]

I decided that I didn't much like waiting for ideal circumstances to present themselves, and that I'd be better off making do with what I had.

[furgood]

Better to celebrate at all than to push it off and lack those familiar traditions?

[devoutish]

Exactly that.

[He sighs.]

I can't say it doesn't bother me, though.

[furgood]

I know you said you didn't want to but I think it's good. I think it helps to find something familiar for yourself in this strange place. Bring home with you if you can't go to it. It's not the same but it's honoring the spirit of the tradition, right?
