Ah - there will be books at the seder. Books written for people who are new to this, so that they might participate as well.

Would you like to look at one of the books ahead of time?

Maybe. Not to know everything ahead of time but to... Understand what this is about and why it's important and all that. I like to know.

Very far. It's way off in the east, in the desert. It's where the Jewish people were kept in slavery, back in biblical times, and Passover - Passover celebrates our liberation.

[furgood]

Oh. Oh. I didn't know that... Well that makes something you once said make a little more sense. Not make more sense but--it certainly informs it.

[devoutish]

What something are you thinking of?

[furgood]

You once said your people, who eat your bread, weren't treated well. And this, celebrating it on the same day as it always was is important and...I don't know, it just feels like I connected a few dots in the grand picture of your religion.

[devoutish]

I do still wish that I could do that - celebrate it on the proper day.

[furgood]

What made you change your mind? About celebrating it regardless.

[devoutish]

I decided that I didn't much like waiting for ideal circumstances to present themselves, and that I'd be better off making do with what I had.

[furgood]

Better to celebrate at all than to push it off and lack those familiar traditions?

[devoutish]

Exactly that.

[He sighs.]

I can't say it doesn't bother me, though.

[furgood]

I know you said you didn't want to but I think it's good. I think it helps to find something familiar for yourself in this strange place. Bring home with you if you can't go to it. It's not the same but it's honoring the spirit of the tradition, right?

[devoutish]

Mm, yeah. And there's precedence for it, sure. Ideal circumstances haven't always been available to us.

[furgood]

I'm sure that they, all your people, would understand. [She leans in to kiss his cheek.] I like to learn about your holidays, your religion, all of it. And I mean, I could read about it but learning from you is better.

[She signs something quickly] Like when I showed you this.

[devoutish]

Do you keep up with it, even though you've got your hearing back?

[He signs her name for her - M-E-U-L-I-N. He remembers.]

I try. It's harder without someone to do it with? Languages are hard when you're just memorizing, I feel like it's better when you have someone to practice with?

[devoutish]

You know that I'd practice with you, yeah?

[furgood]
