[ He winces at the idea - up to her waist, goddamn - and wordlessly gestures to a coat rack where she can hang her heaviest outerclothes.]

Settle in; I've made some bread for you.

[ She sheds her coat and scarf, handing them up neatly and tucking her mittens into the pockets. She makes a little curious noise as he explains ]

You don't have to reply to every gift with an equal gift, you know? [But she's treating ]

[True to her promise, on the night of Christmas Eve Eliza slips a drawing into Alfie's mailbox as well. It's a perspective view of him holding up a frame made of twigs tilted slightly to the side, as if about to place it over something. He's got his tongue sticking out as if trying to figure out the best angle as well. Eliza has signed it and added a "Merry Christmas!" note.]

Have to, no. Would you like tea?

[devoutish]

[This is very cute, and he'll be sticking it on his fridge. And true to his own promise, if she comes back over, he'll have a surprise for her, too. If she doesn't, he'll send a little reminder note.]

[furgood]

Of course. [ She fluffs her hair up and makes her way further into the house] I like your bread though so I'm not going to complain. As if anyone would.

[devoutish]

I've got this.

[He pulls a loaf of something out of the breadbox, showing it to her.]

It's called rugelach. Best had when it's been warmed on the stove a bit. Half the loaf's for you, the other half's for Eliza.

[It does take her a while to respond, mainly because drawing and passing out all those pictures in one day/night was kind of exhausting for her. But the day after Christmas, she comes knocking on his door with a smile on her face.]

[devoutish]

Yeah?

[He opens the door, and when he sees who it is, he'll step back to usher her in.]

No sense in waiting out in the cold, come on.

[telecosmetic]

[Eliza smiles as she skips inside, looking around the house.] Hi! How did Emily and Royce like their drawings?

[devoutish]

[It's a simple place - old-fashioned but homey, and small and cozy for three people without being cramped. Alfie moves to the kitchen, where he pulls something out of the breadbox to warm on the stove.]

Oh, they loved them; yeah. They were gorgeous.

[telecosmetic]

[Eliza's smiling as she looks around the place, although she sniffs the air and brightens up when she notices the bread being taken out.] Ooh, that smells good!

[devoutish]

It's called rugelach. We make it at home.

[He turns on the oven, then sets the covered pastry loaf on top, letting it warm.]

Did you have a good Christmas?

[furgood]

Ohhh that's beautiful. What is it filled with? It smells amazing.

[She drifts closer. She wants to pick it up but half of it isn't hers so.]

[devoutish]

This one's got chocolate. I said to myself, "Alfie, everybody likes chocolate; can't go wrong with that, can you?"

[He pulls out a knife and starts carefully cutting it in half - maybe making one piece a little bigger than the other, because Meulin probably eats more than little Eliza.]

[furgood]

And we do have a whole chocolate tree and all. That helps.

[More teasing] But I love chocolate. It's still such a treat.

[devoutish]

This is made from the chocolate of that tree.

[furgood]

I figured. Otherwise you'd have to wish for it and that just seems silly.

[ She nudges him out of the way with a little bump of her hip and just breaks off a little piece to pop in her mouth ]

[devoutish]

Good?

[He gives her a grin, touching her elbow.]

It's even better if it warms a bit more.

[furgood]

I'll warm up the rest but you can't blame me for wanting a bite. And it's honestly delicious.

[She sneaks a little bit more and grins ] I bet this works lovely with tea.

[devoutish]

The tea, yeah; that's also almost ready. How do you take yours?

[furgood]

With a slightly ridiculous amount of sugar usually but maybe with a little milk.

[devoutish]

A slightly ridiculous amount of sugar.

[He tuts, faux-disapproving.]

No, I'm not surprised at that.

[furgood]

[She smiles, utterly unashamed under his faux disapproval ] I am who I am. And who I am is someone who loves sweet things. I shall never apologize.

[devoutish]

And I shall never ask you to.

[He will get out the milk for her, though, and a little bowl of sugar.]
