Maybe once. Were you ever this close to someone before Royce?

Family, but that's a different sort of closeness. Men I knew in the war - it's more like that. But I am closer to him than I was to them.

[furgood]

I understand. I-- Maybe Terezi for a time but I couldn't share everything. Derek and Taria had to be protected from some things. Kurloz-- even if I loved him, he knew the least.

Sure, yeah. There are things that I've only discussed with people who aren't from Earth - aren't from my own world, past, present, or future.

[Little smile] Royce isn't from your world, right? Makes sense.

Mm. He's heard all about it by now, though, and he's got investment. But in the beginning, yeah, that was a part of why I'd talk with him about these things.

[furgood]

Well you've been practically family for ages. Of course he's invested. I'm sure you're invested in his life, in his wife and all that.

[devoutish]

His wife is a wonder. You'd like her as well, I think.

[furgood]

I'm sure I would. [Little smile ] Did you meet her in a memory?

[devoutish]

No, but we write letters back and forth. She's found herself on another one of these worlds - another god world.

[furgood]

[See that sparkle in her eye. It's the sparkle of a hopeless romantic] That's amazing, it's so lucky! She must--they must be so eager to see each other. I hope they can some day soon.

[devoutish]

That's the plan. Yeah. Zephyr's talked about finding ways to travel in between the worlds.

[furgood]

I hope they can do it soon. We've managed to go to the Void and all. It must be possible.

[devoutish]

[They curve along a particularly steep part of the lake's bank, and Alfie gently steers her away from it.]

Haven't got a clue how long it's likely to take. The same goes for finding a way back home.

Well, there's a way I'm sure. I'm sure I'll miss everyone when we do. But we'll meet some new people in between.

[She tucks in closer to him, avoiding the bank]

Is that how you truly think of it, or is that how you tell yourself you should think of it?

[Her soft smile falters a little and eventually she shrugs. She's not really answering.]
