It was never like that for me. Wasn't in charge of anything other than myself. And Hadrian, at times.

Mm. No, I know you do. [ A long sigh. ] I don't know how I feel about being that angry.

Well, it's not the anger that's the problem, is it? Anger's useful. It's feeling like you aren't controlling it.

That's... a very good way of putting it.

It feels good, but not when I don't have a place to direct it.

[devoutish]

And directing it at John wasn't satisfactory enough?

[bywolves]

No, I don't think so. He doesn't listen. It rolls off of him. It just makes me angrier. It's - unproductive, because he really, truly believes he's a better man morally than I am.

[devoutish]

We need more ammunition against that, I think. Things to make him feel guilty with.

[bywolves]

Mm. Do you think it's too low to bring those types of things up in public?

[devoutish]

Low? Yeah. Too low? Not at all. I'd do it, myself.

[bywolves]

[ He sinks a little closer. ]

If I wasn't hesitant to air my own dirty laundry in public, I'd use the fact that he got me killed far more often.

[devoutish]

To me, it all depends on how it's aired. You know what I mean?

[bywolves]

I do. [ He's done it before, just. ] Sometimes I can't find the balance.

[devoutish]

Really? Seems like you've done a decent enough job to me.

[bywolves]

[ Royce glances up at him, lips twitching. ]

Hm. Maybe.

[devoutish]

I could bring it up instead, if you like. Help you keep your high ground.

[bywolves]

[ Snort. ]

You can do that, and you can help me dig up dirt on John.

[devoutish]

Royce Melborn, I would be honored.

[bywolves]

[ Royce laughs, pulling himself up and away from Alfie gently, putting his feet on the ground. Or trying to, anyway. ]

I thought you might be. It'll make it easier to get through the winter.

[devoutish]

Yes. Some detective work, if you will. As if I worked for the police.

[He's making minor grabby hands at Royce, just to show his displeasure at having him pull away, but he doesn't try to prevent him from going.]

[bywolves]

Oh, I'm sure he'll love that. Make sure to phrase it like that. And if he protests, tell him you wouldn't have pried if he had just been honest with you. [ Royce says, amused. He grabs for those grabby hands. C'mere. If Alfie stands, Royce will go ahead and hug him, full on face buried in Alfie's chest, fingers gripping at the back of his shirt. ]

[devoutish]

Ah Royce, what lovely ideas you're giving me.

[He lets himself be reeled in, as always, and he readily wraps his arms around Royce, holding him tight.]

Love you.

[He says, running his fingers through his hair.]

[bywolves]

Love you. [ Royce mumbles, sinking into Alfie for a moment. His comfort is clear through the way he stands and their connection, the anger and distress from earlier mostly gone.

After a moment, he speaks again, though he doesn't bother pulling away. ]

I've got something for you. Also.

[devoutish]

For me?

[He nuzzles his nose into Royce's hair, not pulling back either.]
