He was commenting on the Jewish village near his back home, and telling us exactly what he thought of it. He didn't know I was one.

[ Royce stretches back out, with a bit of a yawn. ] I would've helped.

[Royce's arm gets another pat.]

[ Royce grins a little, lazy. ]

I know. [ A beat. ] Dunno how long you'd last taking orders from me.

I'd tell you to fuck off and then I'd grab my sword.

So business as usual. Less bathrobes and scalpels involved.

I'd do it in robe and slippers.

[bywolves]

[ That gets Royce to laugh. It's less restrained because he's drunk. ]

Do you laugh much at home, mate?

No. Not really. [ He does sometimes, but life hasn't been kind to him... ever, honestly. ] Never thought about it.

[ He thinks that's sort of optimistic, even while drunk, but he doesn't argue. Instead, he just sighs. ]

[ You can't match up to his endless pessimism! ]

That's a first. [ Royce glances up at Alfie, slightly unfocused. ] People don't usually find me funny at all.

[ Royce grins in that same lazy way. ]

Yeah. Sounds right.

Go to sleep. I'll keep watch.

[He'll fall asleep within ten minutes.]

[ Royce doesn't argue. He settles further into the blankets and closes his eyes - and he's out not long after Alfie. Both of them are going to sleep forever, honestly. ]
