[Earlier on in the day, before he splits up with Enoch for the night and ends up getting snatched by an anomaly, Quark decides to check in with Alfie. It's been a little while since they've last talked, and he likes the guy.]

Hey! I just wanted to see how you were doing. How have you been?

[There's been more talking than usual today, which Alfie tells himself isn't a bad thing. He's gotten accustomed to only interacting with Royce with any regularity, and that is the bad thing - and so is the way that talking to and being around other people has started to feel exhausting. And so when Quark calls, he answers, even though a part of him tells him that he's too tired for this.]

Yeah.

[Say something more.]

Yeah, hello. Quark? All right there?

Everything's okay.

[Good. Alfie's good. He's glad!]

I started traveling with Mr. Enoch after losing Charles...

[And it's just...a bit of a relief, to have someone again. Not that he needs anyone to take care of him, but just to combat the loneliness.]

Yeah. And you're still with him now?

[He knows Quark travels alone, sometimes, but still. It's better for him to be with other people.]

Kinda. We're planning on splitting up for the day because he wants to stay in this super creepy place overnight. But we'll meet up again in the morning.

Mm. And you'll be staying where?

One of the skywalks. Kind of a weird place to sleep...but I don't really mind so much. Especially since it's just one night. I'll play a game or something to pass the time, but I dunno what yet.

Haven't heard much about those yet. They're indoors?

Yeah! It's like a big hallway in the sky, with walls and a ceiling.

[Quark takes a photograph, and it looks something akin to this if you imagine something a bit more futuristic. It's completely devoid of any and all decorations on the inside.]

[He was picturing something more like an open-air pedestrian bridge.]

Yeah, it's alright. Just kinda weird when you can watch the snow falling right outside...makes me feel more unsafe than I really am. Where are you and Mr. Royce?

Coming out of the downtown. We had a stop at the grocery store this morning.

You've been down here? The bread is fresh.

No! I've never been there!

[He can't help but sigh. Been here so long and he's only ever been as far as the hospital.]

That sounds amazing. I can't even remember the last time I've had anything warm. What kind of foods did you get?

Oh, all sorts. Rye bread, white bread. Sweetbread. Pound cake. I still haven't found the babka I've been searching for, but--

What's babka? I don't think I've ever heard of that before.
