Are you trying to spoil me with food? [ It's meant to be a joke, but his voice is flat. ]

[devoutish]

Yes.

[Duh, Royce.]

[bywolves]

I'm not hungry. [ Royce mumbles, but. He holds out his hand for the jar anyway. Alfie's trying to help. ]

[devoutish]

Sweets aren't eaten when you're hungry. They're eaten when you need them.

[He passes over the jar. Royce can take as much or as little as he likes.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce snorts a little at that, but. He takes the jar, and scoops his finger into it. He eats a scoop or two - it's mostly out of obligation, but it's not like it's a terrible one. ]

[devoutish]

Good? Bad? Tell me what you think.

[bywolves]

It's alright. [ He says, licking it off his finger. ] Sweet.

[ A beat, and then he sneezes into his sleeve. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie grins, but doesn't say anything.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce makes a disgruntled noise. ]

Chocolate makes me sneeze.

[devoutish]

Really? Why?

[bywolves]

Don't know. It's always just once, and then it doesn't happen again until I eat it a separate time.

[devoutish]

[That's adorable. He can't say so, though, because Royce would pinch him.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce glances up at him, rubbing at his face. It's cold, and he doesn't want the tears from before to freeze. ]

[devoutish]

Nothing, nothing.

[He leans his shoulder into Royce's.]

Nothing.

[bywolves]

[ Royce rests his head against Alfie, carefully screwing the jar lid back on. ]

[Alfie settles it on the mattress next to them.]

I wish I had some rye for you, too.

[bywolves]

We can go back downtown soon. [ Royce mumbles. Maybe it's a little hopeful. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie alights on that immediately.]

You want to? Yeah, we'll go downtown. We can pick up food here, first; we need it. But after that-- yeah. Straight away.

[bywolves]

Okay. [ He closes his eyes again. ] Gabriel said he wanted to come see us. He's close by.

[devoutish]

Will he be bringing the whole crew with him?

[bywolves]

No. Just him.

I don't want to see Alphonse. Or Brown.

[devoutish]

Just him, then. Okay.

Where's he gonna meet us?

[bywolves]

There's a house with unlimited hot water. Close. To the west. [ Sniff. ] Let's go there.

[devoutish]

Before we get your bread?

[bywolves]

Yeah. [ He closes his eyes. ] I want both of us to get to have warm water.
