Hi, Mister. Sorry if this is a bad time or I'm bothering you...um...

[This isn't an easy subject, and Quark isn't sure it's really his place to say anything. But it's been on his mind since the obituary...and all the things that followed it...and...a lack of seeing her name come back up again.]

I just wanted to say that...I hope you're doing okay. I know you and Miss Fiona were important to each other.

[Quark hesitates.]

I mean, I hoped she did. I really liked hanging out with her, and practicing how to be a con artist.

[So that isn't exactly what they were doing. But it was fun anyway. He's not a kid that would really go around stealing, but he figures it's a useful skill to have. You never know what you might need to know.]

I'm not so good at knowing where I stand with people.

[This can probably be blamed on his "friendship" with House.]

When you came back to life in that chapel, she was determined to reach you. She wouldn't hear of anything else.

[Not that any of the rest of them had been against the idea of going to rescue him from yet another death, of course.]

I'd do the same for her if I had the chance.

[And maybe they still would. Al and Clayton and that lady he never talked to came back after really long periods where they were dead...so maybe the same would happen for Fiona. They have no way of knowing. That makes it so much harder.]

[Quark decides against assurances that maybe she'll come back. It seems something akin to pouring salt into a wound.]

[Even considering what they're talking about, he feels a smile tug onto his face. She made him laugh a lot, no matter how sad he was feeling. They both did. He chuckles to himself, and wipes some wetness away from his eyes. There's silence, and then his voice becomes more grave.]

And you're going to make the Joker pay, aren't you?

[He read the Network post. Or most of it, anyway. He isn't sure what Alfie's plan is...but he hopes whatever it is, the Joker gets double what he has coming.]

No. The Joker's not somebody that can be punished. That man doesn't care about anything.

[It's said with regret, because he'd like to punish the Joker. But as far as Alfie is concerned, the only thing that can be done with men like that is to take them out, and he can't even do that.]
