It would probably be easiest to think of us as a kind of spirit, connected to our land and our people. [There is a grimace on his face as he speaks next. There's no video feed, but it's audible in his tone.] Or we're supposed to be, anyway.

I figured England was a nickname, at first. Might've been that you were the first British man here, or something.

Yes. Arthur Kirkland. Nations typically have an alias on file; makes paperwork easier, and tends to put humans more at ease.

And as your citizen, right, what do you expect from me?

Well, typically we appreciate when our citizens represent us with good deeds and some love for where they came from. But truthfully, I don't expect you to do anything for me. You've got your own life and I don't intend to tell you how to run it.

We stand by our citizens, and we protect them at any cost, regardless of if we approve of what they're doing.

[Though usually they do. Biased and all.]

I was a pirate. [Or privateer? Neither term seems quite accurate for his situation, but pirate has the connotation he's going for.] I don't think I'm in any place to judge.

The British Empire had to be formed somehow, eh?

Indeed. Sometimes you've got to break the rules.

[He sounds more matter-of-fact than remorseful.]

We've got rules now, what with the United Nations and all, but when it really comes down to it, most of us won't follow them. If it's a matter of protecting our people, we'll do whatever it takes.

[devoutish]

Do you have a year, a time period, or are you from everywhere?

[keepscalm]

Wouldn't that be something? [England sounds amused at the idea; he'd be practically omnipotent, in that case. Not that he would mind...] I've lived a long time, but I only experience the present, much like a human. I'm from 2015.
