I don't know. How different people can be, maybe? I don't mean this like I think you need to learn something, I'm just wondering if you think you have. If you'll bring something from here, back home?

I'll bring plenty of factual knowledge, sure, yeah. But my philosophies - those haven't changed.

I guess you'll need to hold on to these philosophies, anyway.

Yeah. Yeah, they're important, where I come from.

Why do you ask? What do you feel you've learned?

Just curious. I don't know if I've learned much just yet, or maybe just a few things about myself.

I'm a lot more self-sacrificial than I'd like to be.

[devoutish]

Do you plan on trying to change that?

You think I should?

[She's not asking for guidance - she is the way she is, and she has a feeling he'll tell her something about survival, or self-preservation. But she'll always put the lives of her patients at the top of her list.]

It sounds as if you want to.

Sometimes, maybe. I'm more useful to the community alive and whole than if I was throwing myself on front of every bullet. But there are times where I don't think there's that much of a choice. Where kids are concerned, for example.

[devoutish]

Kids are different.

Why don't any of you care about staying alive for yourself; for your loved ones?

I do. I very much do care about staying alive, actually. Being willing to take risks so that people I care for don't have to doesn't mean I have a death wish. I don't plan, nor want to die, Alfie.

There's a gulf between having a death wish and being self-sacrificial.
