[ For her? The blink of an eye. But she can only imagine how long it's been for the people who have stayed. For Alfie, who never wanted to stay in the first place. ]

Have you been counting? No doubt things have gotten a touch more boring without me around to spice them up. But what has been happening? Anything of note? In your life or in this whole goddamn world.

Ah, you'll hear about the rest of the world from everyone else, I expect. Me, I've quit the job the government assigned to me. I've got two dogs now, and an automobile.

How domestic. I trust you've found other lucrative affairs to make ends meet?

Sure. A bit of this, a bit of that. We'll have to meet for lunch sometime soon. Catch up with each other and all.

Well, I'm free now. Why waste any more time? If it's been 9 months already, that sure is an awful lot to catch up on. But I'm sure there are certain things that remain the same.

Will you come to my flat?

It's nothing special. Can't even call it home, can I.

Considering the porter's fondness for you, I think you may have to start calling it home.

[ A pause. ]

But I do understand what you mean.

[ Her home could never be here either. Not unless her daughter arrived, too. ]

Yeah. I'm a stubborn man; it won't be home even if I'm here for years more.

What is it you have waiting for you back home?

[devoutish]

Family, business. Home. A life.

But not a wife? Children? Yet, at least.

[devoutish]

No. And being stuck here, that's a blessing.

Found no one here to settle down with? Well, good. I was planning on ravaging you either way when I arrived so this spares me the inevitable fight.

And why are you not knocking at my front door yet?

Much though I wish teleportation was a power of mine, darling, I can only move so fast. But the cab should be arriving shortly.

[And when she does arrive, he'll be watching at the window for her, ready to unlock the door.]

[ True to her word, the cab does pull up not too long afterward. The driver seems content to leave without pay. Hm. Curious. But Maeve doesn't bat an eye as she heads up to Alfie's door. And upon seeing him, she wastes no time reaching out and greeting him with a forceful kiss. No hellos. No pleasantries. No time wasted. ]

[No complaints here - he'd been planning to do the same thing himself, and he finds himself not minding in the least that she's stolen his thunder by doing it first.

Without breaking away, he pulls her through the door and into the house. The dogs have been shut out in the back garden in preparation for this, so she won't have to worry about getting jumped on.]

[ Once behind closed doors, Maeve hops up in his arms -- wrapping her legs securely around his hips without even a pause for air. She's found herself yearning for what is familiar in this world, using those previous connections as a cornerstone to reorient herself here.

And this definitely does bring back a lot of memories. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie wraps his arms around her immediately, holding her up. Walking backwards and doing his best not to bump into any furniture, he brings them back towards the bedroom, letting out a hiss of pain into the kiss as he bangs his leg into the doorframe.]

[ Mercifully, Maeve doesn't laugh at him. She does crack a bit of a smile against his mouth, though. It's a bruise to remember her by! And there will likely be more where that came from. ]

It's not too bad. Your place.

[ An idle remark as her lips drag along his jawline. ]

Mmmm.

[He edges her towards the bed.]

Yeah, I'm quite fond of it, now.

[Not nearly enough to want to stay, but it's a nice little temporary home.]

Certainly beats sharing with whoever it is they house us with.

[ Maeve leans down, her mouth finding his neck and she nips at the skin as he leads them toward the bed. With one arm wrapped around his shoulders for support -- the other begins popping the buttons of his shirt one by one. ]
