I don't know if you enjoy sake or not, but it's something different from rum, I can assure you.
Happy New Year.

Alfie's second thought: these rice things look delicious.
He sends a text message back in response:]
Thanks, mate. These are Japanese?

Hi Alfie, it's Gwen -
( wait, what next
oh, she does have a question ... but she's not asking him what he knows about the black market over the phone. that's stupid. and what if he doesn't know anything about it, anyway, is it rude to assume all shady people who don't trust the government are hella criminals... )
I'm still trying to get the lay of the land. Do you want to catch up? Here's my number.
( she rattles it off and hangs up. )

Letter!
Dear Mr. Solomons -
I write to you on behalf of a project I am working on within our city. Construction has already begun on rebuilding a much larger library, but I wish for this to be more than simply a bigger structure. I hope to inspire education and the spread of knowledge to the natives of Maurtia Falls as well as provide an invaluable resource to new arrivals here. But more than that, I wish to use it to pay homage to the natives who lost their lives within Maurtia Falls due to imPort related tragedies. Their names will be honored within the library itself and donations will be set up to be made to the families.
For this project to succeed, I need your help. If you are able to donate anything at all to the cause, it would be most appreciated -- whether that is books, money, or simply your time. It could be an excellent opportunity to spread your business's name throughout the community. Perhaps you could even bake some things to be sold at a fundraiser.
I thank you for your time, and I do hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Ambassador Petyr Baelish
[ OOC: You can feel free to just respond to this OOCly if he would donate anything or not! ]

Ambassador,
I haven't got a proper business here, and I make a point of not donating my money to government causes. My apologies. I'm sure you understand.
Best of luck with your politics,
A. Solomons
P.s. - With any luck you won't find yourself ported out suddenly. It would be a shame to have all this work go to waste.

Well, there's no point getting ahead of himself. First thing's first. Introducing himself to his probationer. There isn't any reason to be unkind about it, but he knows it's important not to be too casual, either. This system isn't in place only for the welfare of the everyday citizen, but for the imPorts being rehabilitated, too.]
Mr Solomons? Hi. My name is Josuke Higashikata. I've been assigned as your probation officer. I'd like to meet. Would tomorrow morning at 9AM be a good time for you?
no subject
Yeah, hello.
[He makes sure to sound not quite friendly, but at least somewhat personable.]
I'm in Maurtia Falls, but let's meet in DeChima. It's still a bit chilly up here in Pennsylvania.
[The real reason is that he's going to try very, very hard to continue his regular porter usage, and this is as good an excuse as any.]

TEXT. SORRY IN ADVANCE FOR... whatever this is (1/2)
current threadprevious conversation, Ray has finally settled on a list of films he feels is worth passing on, after spending a laborious amount of time trying to narrow it down. ]All right, as requested! Ray's Recs: A Special Selection.
Now I did try to narrow it down to things I thought you might actually like, or at least maybe find interesting. While also still giving you a little bit of everything.
TEXT. (2/2)
Singinā in the Rain - Three movie stars of the 1920s during the transition from silent movies to talkies. Itās also a musical.

I've never heard of you. Who are you?
[This is not strictly true - they haven't spoken, but Alfie has heard the name floating around. Still, he's a dick, and he likes to try to poke fun at the ambassadors (candidates included).]
