IC trade organization post

To facilitate the spread of supplies, requested goods and goods available for trade may be listed here. ALFIE SOLOMONS may be contracted as broker for an additional fee to be negotiated by the parties involved. Brokerage services may include:

Negotiation of the trade deal
Enforcement of the pre-arranged terms of the trade deal
Delivery of goods

Once an agreement has been reached, the broker will require a small nonrefundable deposit, to be paid as soon as possible. Full payment will be due once the trade has been completed.

Participants must be aware of the risk involved in trade in Norfinbury, including but not limited to significant delays caused by unforeseen town activities and the disappearance of trade goods to due the deaths of one or more participants. The broker will be responsible for making a good faith effort to see a deal done, but cannot give a 100% guarantee of success. The initial deposit is nonrefundable regardless of the outcome of the deal, except in cases of negligence on the part of the broker. If a trade fails or is cancelled for any reason, final payment will not be required. Purposeful failure to uphold any part of an agreed-upon brokerage deal will result in future blacklisting from brokerage services.

The broker will not act as an enforcer for deals made by parties who do not hire him as broker from the onset, and no protections or guarantees will be given in these cases.

IC discussion of any kind is totally welcome - just make sure it's under the right header! On an OOC level, it's like the player-placed items page in that it's an independent player-run thing and not managed by the mods. I am going to trade for the things I want. you remind me of my father but that does not mean that you are my father and it does not mean that I have to do the things you tell me to do or not do the things you tell me not to do because I am a person and I make decisions and I am making the decision to trade for fake animals and also sometimes knives because I am a person and I want those things and it is my decision

[There's a more effective way to manipulate her here, and it's off the network. They're in the same small building in the split tunnels, so it's not like they're not immediately in proximity of one another. House's tone is purposefully testy.]

Don't be an idiot. Of course I'm not your father. I'm your frie- [He cuts himself off like he's said too much. He adds hastily, as if to cover over the 'mistake.'] It's just a stupid trade.

[Ecks curls herself around her tablet as Doctor House approaches, wanting to hide her private conversation with Alfie from him even if he's still sitting right where he was. She looks up from her tablet, eyes widening. She caught that slip, and it's pulled her back from the edge of contrariness for the sake of contrariness.]

If I ask for other things they will not give me the fake animals.

[He knows she's having private conversations, trying to get the stuffed animals that people have collected. That's not difficult to figure out. He's guessing Alfie is one of them.]

You need to learn to haggle, kid. That means you ask for more and work down to less. You don't let them set the price at whatever they want and you hold the line. You have to be willing to walk away and show that you're willing to walk or they'll roll right over you.

You want stuffed animals? Fine. But you better be getting multiple stuffed animals for one item or they need to throw in something extra that's needed, not wanted.

But I am not willing to walk away if walking away is a metaphor for failing to come to a trade agreement.

[You don't seem to understand the core problem, here, House. She glances down at her tablet, then back at him.]

Can you teach me how to haggle?

You walk away now to prove that you can. Then you come back later. Who are you trying to haggle with right now? If you've got more than one person offering you stuffed animals, you can use that to your advantage. Even if you don't, you can play it like you do to get them to lower their price.

I am trying to trade with Alfie.

[She doesn't look him in the eye as she admits it.]

He is the only one who has offered them right now. He agreed to give me one cat for two arm lengths' of clear string, but he has three more cats and a fish and I want those also and he would not agree to two cats in exchange for the clear string.

[She glances down at the most recent message.]

He wants to know whether I am employing you as my broker.

No. You're employing me as an advisor. You're doing this. I'll advise. And my advice is that you tell him Wilson offered you two stuffed dogs for a bottle of aspirin, and that seems like a much better deal. Because you're the one with something physically valuable here. If he wants to be a little more generous in his offer, you'll reconsider.

[It helps that he's no longer telling her not to make the trades at all, but it's mostly a natural response to a clear command when she turns her tablet and shows the conversation to him.]

Alfie wants to see photographs of everything I am willing to trade.

[She gets a photograph of five stuffed animals (four cats and a shark) all lined up together. He knows you want these, Ecks. He's been collecting them for you. Don't you want to give him something valuable in return?]

[No, they didn't, but maybe he's forgotten.]

I will increase the quantity of clear string in trade for the rest.

[She feels a flood of relief. Four to go, but one is done. She is not sure how she will hide this from Doctor House.]

there is a glass jar. I use it to hold the pins. Also I have a device with a number display and a button. when I press the button the number display goes up by 1.

[She's cherry-picking. There are other good things but she is trying to tell him only the things she is most willing to part with.]

no. I am not planning to hire Doctor House as a broker for us.

[She attaches a photograph of a glass jar with a metal lid containing a dozen colorful thumb tacks, a clicker with a number display, a spool of fishing line with a small quantity unwound to show what it looks like, and, perhaps against Doctor House's wishes, a bottle of aspirin with its lid still on to conceal how much is still inside. If she's going to say she got an offer for it, logically she should show that it's something in her possession.]

Doctor Wilson offered me two fake dogs in exchange for the aspirin. Doctor Wilson has offered me a significantly better trade. I think that is the trade I am going to accept unless you want to change your trade.
