To facilitate the spread of supplies, requested goods and goods available for trade may be listed here. ALFIE SOLOMONS may be contracted as broker for an additional fee to be negotiated by the parties involved. Brokerage services may include:

Negotiation of the trade deal
Enforcement of the pre-arranged terms of the trade deal
Delivery of goods

Once an agreement has been reached, the broker will require a small nonrefundable deposit, to be paid as soon as possible. Full payment will be due once the trade has been completed.

Participants must be aware of the risk involved in trade in Norfinbury, including but not limited to significant delays caused by unforeseen town activities and the disappearance of trade goods to due the deaths of one or more participants. The broker will be responsible for making a good faith effort to see a deal done, but cannot give a 100% guarantee of success. The initial deposit is nonrefundable regardless of the outcome of the deal, except in cases of negligence on the part of the broker. If a trade fails or is cancelled for any reason, final payment will not be required. Purposeful failure to uphold any part of an agreed-upon brokerage deal will result in future blacklisting from brokerage services.

The broker will not act as an enforcer for deals made by parties who do not hire him as broker from the onset, and no protections or guarantees will be given in these cases.

[She's much more cooperative at this point, scrolling up when asked. When she sends pictures of all the things she's offered, she's perhaps a little more generous than desired -- she also includes an image of the aspirin bottle.]

Alfie thinks that I do not know how to lie. I told him that I had not learned to lie, and he tried to teach me how, but I think if I lie to him too much he will figure out that I do know how to lie.

[ Alfie's reply arrives, and she lets out a flat little groan.]

He knows that I can take more than one trade.

[House frowns at Alfie's message.]

Tell him you're aware of that, but since you have people willing to offer you better trades, you'll be holding onto your supplies until he sweetens the deal or you find someone else willing to offer you a better trade. Dr. Wilson's trade is proof that Solomons is trying to squeeze you for more than the stuffed animals are worth.

Also tell him good luck on finding anyone else to trade his stuffed animals with. You're the only buyer for those things here. That means you control the price, not him.

[Ecks faithfully conveys that -- perhaps a little too faithfully, frankly. Alfie's reply comes in a few moments later and she all but convulses, scrabbling out a short, immediate reply before she can even think.]

[House facepalms and sighs when he gets a look at her message. He scrolls through the rest of the trading post.]

Emily's the little girl he's traveling with. Stall him.

A little girl like Hsiaoke?

[She's rattled by Alfie's ruthless tactics, to say the least. Ecks is going to develop a dislike for little girls, at this rate.

She starts well enough with a lowball offer, but House might want to take note of the way Ecks goes silent as she taps out several more messages and rapidly closes another deal on the same terms as the one she managed at the start of all this.]

[House grunts an affirmative, but he's wrapped up in his conversation with Steph for the moment. He will be severely annoyed later at her closing a deal like that.]

[Now that she's settled a deal, his advice of a moment ago will finally sink in.]

Why would he try his luck with Steph?

[Someone hasn't been paying attention to the other messages.]

Because she asked for stuffed animals, too. She's going to refuse to trade with him for them.

She also wants fake animals? [House might recognize the signs of alarm in Ecks by now. She's even ignoring her conversation with Alfie for the moment to hyper focus on what House is saying.]

I am not going to tell him to trade with another person who also wants them.

What did I just say? She's going to refuse to trade with him.

[That would be reassuring if it was even the slightest bit logical.]

Why? Why would she do that if she also wants them?

I told her I want her help screwing over Solomons after he gave his pet half-elf the scalpel that bastard used to murder me. Pathos.

[That is technically true, even if Steph didn't agree because of that.]

[Oh, right. He hadn't told her that, either. House shrugs. If she gets upset and tips Alfie off, that's going to ruin the hustle.]

He's an asshole. Don't be surprised and tell him no deal, go talk to Steph to peddle his ill-gotten wares. And don't tell him you know about that.

I do not want fake animals from a person who helped kill you.

[That's a blatant lie. Even as she says it her gaze is drawn back to the conversation with Alfie, and she feels a guilty thrill as she makes her selections. Maybe she should not have dealt for a second, but there are still three animals to go. Maybe she can keep it to herself and House won't catch it.]

I will tell him no deal.

[The next time, that is.]

Forget about the fact that he helped kill me. Tell him no deal, wait for Steph to tell him no deal, then let him come back to you. Might be a bit if he tries to shop 'em around.

[In reply, Ecks lets out a long, low groan. She does not want to tell him no deal and wait for "a bit" while Alfie tries to sell her fake animals to other people. Worse than that, she cannot do the other thing he has just told her to do. Forgetting is not possible.

She spends a moment trying to coax Alfie into making another offer, only to be stymied.]

He is not making an offer.

Whatever he's trying to offer, tell him no deal and ask him to try his luck with Steph. She's going to reject him. Don't tell him that last part.
