And then, quieter: ] If I talked to her, I don't know if she'd take me seriously.

Tell her it's important to you, then. That you take it seriously.

[bywolves]

[ He sighs a little, closing his eyes. ]

Yeah. I guess. I don't know if she knows it is a problem. She told me to shush, after.

[devoutish]

Tell her to fuck off.

[Pause.]

In a more polite sort of way, perhaps.

[bywolves]

[ A pause. ]

So you think I should talk to her, then.

[devoutish]

If you wanna keep what you've got with her, then yeah, I do.

[bywolves]

[ But he doesn't wanna. He knows he should, though. There's a pause, and then he curls closer into Alfie's side. ]

I will. Eventually.

[Alfie nuzzles his nose against the top of Royce's head.]

Or I'll bash her for you, if you like.

[It's not a completely serious suggestion; he knows that Royce wouldn't want him to. I'm on your side, is what he really means by it.]

[ Royce snorts, amused by that. He gets it. He tucks his head under Alfie's chin, pulling the blankets closer. ]

I know you would. [ He murmurs. ] You know - I think next time there is something that happens here that changes me, I'm not going to do it. People never seem to like it much when I participate.

[ Maybe he's being sulky about it, but listen. ]

[Alfie huffs.]

I didn't choose King of Thieves as my Fairy Tale. And I think it's stupid to expect me to sign up and not test out my abilities. Instead I got yelled at.

Well, you were stealing things. But they were pulling off their own ridiculous stunts, as well.

Eliza threatened me with a snake tail. [ Grumble. ] Renart nearly tried to kill me. John froze me.

[devoutish]

Sounds to me like you were all fucking about with your powers against each other, then.

[bywolves]

Yeah, something like that. [ Huff, pout. ] Whatever. It's over so it doesn't matter.

[devoutish]

I can't imagine they're gonna hold it against you, if that's what worries you.

[bywolves]

No, I'm not worried about it, I'm annoyed. [ A beat. ] I'm annoyed about Renart. About her and with her. She's the main problem on my mind.

[devoutish]

Yeah. I am, too, and I would wallop her or give her a tongue-lashing for you, mate.

[bywolves]

I know. [ Sigh. ] I know you would. I will... I will handle it, eventually. For now, I don't want to be around her.

What will you do if she comes up to you?

Talk to her, I suppose. I just won't seek her out for now.
