[Alfie calls out. From the sound of his voice, he's nearby - maybe sitting on the couch, or in one of the living room armchairs. There's a whomph of a sound as Bear jumps off something and hits the floor, trotting over to the door to investigate.]

[furgood]

No it's the mailsloth.

[ She lets herself in just to give Bear the good good pets he deserves.]

[devoutish]

[Alfie's already rising from the couch, coming over to give her a peck on the lips.]

Shall we walk to the beach?

[furgood]

[Pleasant hum] Of course. [She gives Bear another good scritch and takes his arm]

[devoutish]

[Alfie puts on his boots at the door, letting Bear out along with them as they go. He tilts his face up towards the sky, enjoying the spring air.]

Mmm. You wanted to know about seder readings, didn't you?

[furgood]

You mentioned it on the board. And I know better than to ask there. [Teasing] Everytime I do, you end up showing up or sending me a letter anyways.

[devoutish]

It's a silly place for a proper conversation. Letters are better, and speaking in person is better still.

[furgood]

Whatefur you say. [More teasing. And a cheek kissSo tell me. They sounds important. Ish.

[He loops his arm through hers as they head down the lane.]

They're prayers and stories, about the liberation of the Jews from slavery in Egypt. Most of them are very old. Very traditional. But since it's just gonna be me who's Jewish, right, and I'll be inviting a crowd of gentiles, I thought I might do things a bit differently.

[furgood]

I understand. [Faint Hum] So you learn the stories and recite them for the holiday? Right?

[devoutish]

Yeah. And I'll be inviting others to tell their own stories, as well.

[furgood]

Their own stories? From they religions or... [Huff] I need to go looking for books.

[devoutish]

No, no - don't go looking in books. Share something from your own life.

[From what he knows about Panem, he's sure she has relevant experiences.]

It doesn't need to be religious.

[furgood]

No--I didn't mean...I meant not knowing enough about this. About what I should do.

[devoutish]

Ah - there will be books at the seder. Books written for people who are new to this, so that they might participate as well.

[He'd found some beginners' Haggadot in the library, and quickly snatched them up.]

Oh--Oh good. I hate messing things up when I could just... Research it, you know?

[devoutish]

Would you like to look at one of the books ahead of time?

[furgood]

Maybe. Not to know everything ahead of time but to... Understand what this is about and why it's important and all that. I like to know.

[devoutish]

I could tell you that, if you like.

[Some of it, anyway; he's not planning to go into a long, detailed lecture, but he can go over the basics.]

Have I told you about the Jews in Egypt?

[furgood]

You've told me about Jews but I don't think Egypt. Is it near London or far?

[devoutish]

Very far. It's way off in the east, in the desert. It's where the Jewish people were kept in slavery, back in biblical times, and Passover - Passover celebrates our liberation.

[furgood]

Oh. Oh. I didn't know that... Well that makes something you once said make a little more sense. Not make more sense but--it certainly informs it.

[devoutish]

What something are you thinking of?

[furgood]

You once said your people, who eat your bread, weren't treated well. And this, celebrating it on the same day as it always was is important and...I don't know, it just feels like I connected a few dots in the grand picture of your religion.

[devoutish]

I do still wish that I could do that - celebrate it on the proper day.
