Do you still worry I'm gonna take off to make a half-brained deal with that anomaly?

[bywolves]

I wasn't kidding. I won't ever speak to you again if you made that deal. [ So yes. ]

[devoutish]

I wouldn't.

[bywolves]

Good. Don't even consider it. I won't have you throwing your life away for me.

[devoutish]

If I were to ever do something like that, it wouldn't be by running off.

[bywolves]

I don't want you to do it ever.

[devoutish]

What about not letting you push me in front of you when we're escaping from something, does that count?

[Yeah, he noticed that.]

[bywolves]

I didn't try to do anything but walk side by side with you.

[devoutish]

All right. So long as we're clear.

[Pause.]

[bywolves]

[ A beat, and then he looks over his shoulder at Alfie, expression slightly confused. ]

For what?

[devoutish]

Caring about me, even when you can't bring yourself to care about much else.

[bywolves]

I've told you before you're the only thing that matters anymore. [ He says, resting his head back down against the closed toilet lid. ] I can't force it half the time, but that doesn't make it less true.

[devoutish]

C'mere.

[He staggers to his feet, then reaches back down to lift Royce, cradling him if he'll let him.]

[bywolves]

[ He weighs next to nothing - he didn't weigh much to begin with, when he got here. Now he's practically bones. When Alfie pulls him up, Royce holds onto him instinctively, not wanting to be dropped. This should be humiliating, but honestly? He doesn't care. ]

[devoutish]

We'll be safe walking.

[He murmurs, heading for the door.]

Safe as we can be. I've bot knives and things in my pockets.

[bywolves]

You can't attack anything if you're holding me. [ He exhales the words - it isn't a protest, he's just saying. He doesn't make any effort to get away. ]

[devoutish]

I'd put you down and we could fight together, eh?

[bywolves]

Okay. [ He rests his head against Alfie's shoulder, closing his eyes. He's struggling to stay awake, shivering violently, still freezing to the touch. Going outside is going to suck.

But it'll make for a striking image. Alfie doggedly carrying Royce through the snow, Royce's long, tattered cloak flapping behind them in the wind. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie grabs a couple of blankets to wrap around them in their coats, but he's still shivering violently after only a few minutes outside. Snatching up the end of the cloak, he tries to bring that around them too, trying to cut the wind.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce helps the best he can, but he's next to useless out here. The most he can do is bring up the cloak and tuck it around the both of them. ]

[devoutish]

[He starts humming again, one of his own lullabies, not wanting to open his mouth in the wind and the cold.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce is a little limp, and his shivering is starting to stop as they walk, but quietly, struggling - he tries to hum along. ]
