Yeah.

[Slowly, he tries to lower them both down onto the floor. The anomaly, quieter but still audible, lets out another wail, and Alfie shivers.]

[ Royce is fine with that. He slides down to the floor, curling up in the blanket nest, making sure both of them have enough pillows and blankets. Closing his eyes, Royce settles on his side, back to Alfie, but still close enough to almost be touching. ]

[Alfie doesn't say anything for a few minutes, but then:]

I think it was quieter when I talked to it. I could--

[But he cuts himself off.]

No. [ Royce says, firmly, not turning around. ] Stop torturing yourself.

[With a sigh, he drops his head down onto his pillow.]

[ Royce does turn, now, rolls on his back. ]

You're sick. Drunk. This place rubs off thick skin. [ He sighs, slow. ] Have to keep going.

I hope you don't get the chance to. [ Because that'd mean she was here, or that Alfie wasn't able to go home. ]

[ Royce just lazily reaches over and whacks Alfie on the chest. Gently. ]

I'd make a good royal bodyguard. It was what I did when I was young, for the gang.

If you had a gun, you'd be far more effective than any of the guards I have. But yes, swords and knives. Crossbows.

With swords, don't you just--

[ He awkwardly slashes his arm in the air, in what would be terrible form if he were actually holding a sword. ]

With guns, do you just pull the trigger, or is there more to it?

[ Royce gestures vaguely. ] Aiming. How to not get hit by other people. Footwork. Harder than it sounds.

Swordfighting sounds fucking hard enough already.
