I like saying it. [ Royce turns his face to hide against Alfie's neck again. ] It doesn't... it doesn't hold the same significance as it does for you, but still.

[devoutish]

It holds significance to you because it's mine.

[He says, still rubbing Royce's back.]

[bywolves]

Yeah. [ He's relaxed and loose in Alfie's arms, mostly because of that rubbing. ] That's why.

[devoutish]

[He notices the decrease in tension, and moves up to start rubbing his shoulders.]

[bywolves]

Mm. [ That feels really nice. He pets at Alfie's arm like a reward - it's almost more like stroking his arm. ]

[devoutish]

You're the most important thing I've got.

[He murmurs quietly.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce hums in agreement. ]

That's mutual. [ A beat. ] Only thing I've got.

[devoutish]

You've got other things, mate. You've got John. Davesprite. Karkat.

I wouldn't break if I lost them, I don't think.

I know. [ Deep breath. ] Sometimes it's too easy to forget what it'd feel like.

I think about people I care about dying and I don't feel anything. [ He keeps absently stroking at Alfie's arm. ] I've been sick for so long it's hard to remember. Even the transfusion didn't really help.

[devoutish]

It seemed like it helped, from the outside.

[bywolves]

It helped for a while. I guess. Didn't help in the way it needed to. Like one of those bandaid things over a dagger wound.

[devoutish]

Could try medicine. We could ask Watson.

[bywolves]

Do you think there's medicine for this?

He gave that stuff to Emily. You're worse off than she was, but--

[ He shrugs a little. ] If you want to ask him, you can.

[He drops his forehead against Royce's.]

[ Royce wraps his arms around Alfie again, tucking the blankets closer. ]

You should sleep. Real sleep. Not unconsciousness.
