Tell me how it works on Pandora.

[plundering]

Depends, I guess. There are organized gangs, like yours—I've had run-ins with a woman named Vallory who runs a gang that works that way. Her son works with her, but I don't know about the rest of her family. Some of the bandit gangs are more violent and unpredictable. They tend to shoot before dealing. Half of them were driven completely nuts, the other half are just ruthless. Most of those started after Dahl started to withdraw from the planet. Lots of convicts used for labor that were left behind without any resources, so they got desperate.

[devoutish]

Street gangs. Yeah. We've got some of those; they're mostly young kids.

[plundering]

I don't know if I'd call them street gangs. Some of them took over entire towns. Some of them are more like cults—they're obsessed with the vaults or... [She gestures vaguely.] Or whatever. Draw vault symbols everywhere, that kind of thing.

[devoutish]

Like Brian with his Xs.

[plundering]

Uh... yeah, I guess, but we grow up hearing about the vaults. Fairy tales, almost. You can't really go through a big town without seeing the symbol somewhere.

[devoutish]

Were you always interested in them, yourself?

[plundering]

Nah, not exactly. It always seemed like too much trouble, especially with Hyperion and Atlas after them.

[devoutish]

But you're interested now.

[plundering]

We found this little robot, Gortys, that Atlas made to find the Vault of the Traveller. It was hard not to be interested after that.

[devoutish]

And did you find it? Did you get all the treasure?

[plundering]

Nope. Not yet. Before I got here we ran into Vallory's gang and two vault hunters she hired. One of them knocked me out and then I woke up in this hellhole. We don't... have the best luck.

[devoutish]

Think you'll pick it up in time?

[plundering]

[She shrugs.]

I can't turn invisible or snipe someone from a thousand miles away. I'm not a siren, but I want to do it.

[devoutish]

A siren. Like Angel, with her glowing tattoos?

[plundering]

Yeah, like Angel. She told you about that?

[devoutish]

We ended up in the same house one night. We got to talking.

Sirens are rare and crazy powerful. They've got some sort of connection to Eridium, which is all over Pandora. I guess that's why so many of them have shown up there.

[devoutish]

I still don't understand much about them. Can she do those things?

[plundering]

Do what things? From what she told me, all sirens are different.

[devoutish]

The things you mentioned. Turning invisible, and hitting a target from a thousand miles away. How do you fucking hit a target from a thousand miles away?

[plundering]

[Fiona laughs, shaking her head.]

"A thousand miles away" was an exaggeration. Turning invisible isn't. Zer0 is... I don't know what the hell Zer0 is. Neither of them are sirens.

They both sound equally fantastical to me.

[plundering]

Turning invisible isn't normal. Neither is having glowing tattoos, it's just that most vault hunters aren't normal. The ones that last, anyway.

[devoutish]

Sounds a bit ominous, doesn't it.
