And drinking coffee. Sounds like a plan. Go on, get the film. I'll talk to the creature for coffee.

[ He means the Stain. ]

[devoutish]

Oh, no, no; I'd like to hear what lyric you give him.

[He'll follow Royce first, then get the movie after.]

[bywolves]

Mar's sake. [ Royce says, exasperated. He gives the Stain a set of lyrics - it's a verse from one of the dumb tavern songs back in his world, a catchy tune about a woman who charms people to bed with her only to steal all their things after they pass out.

He specifically just says the verse, if only to spite Alfie. ]

[devoutish]

May we hear the full song, Royce?

[bywolves]

No. Take your coffee. [ Royce says flatly, shoving the cup at Alfie with a look to match. He's playful about it, though, not entirely serious. ]

[devoutish]

You see? He's cruel to me.

[This is directed at Stain as he takes the coffee.]

[bywolves]

[ The Stain sort of just looks vaguely amused - or as much as he can. Royce bows his head a bit at the little guy, and then leads Alfie to the DVDs. ]

Buy you a coffee and I'm cruel to you, huh? [ Royce hums, teasing. ]

[devoutish]

Very.

[He links his arm through Royce's as he grabs up the DVDs and tugs him back towards the door.]

[bywolves]

[ This is the gayest domestic thing they've done, and they sleep in the same bed every night.

Royce settles against him, letting him lead the way. He's still adjusting to his hearing, and it's slowly equalizing back into something approaching normal. He's testing it as they walk, trying to sort out how much he can hear between sips of coffee. ]

[devoutish]

[It's a nice summery walk to the beach, the proximity of the sea lending a bit of a breeze to the air.]

Right - how are we gonna find it? Just look up and hope?

[bywolves]

Think so. [ A beat. ] It's got stairs around the trunk leading up into the house, so look for one of those.

I can hear the ocean. [ Also. Just so Alfie knows. ] It's fainter than it should be, but I assume it'll be better tomorrow.

[devoutish]

And if it's not--

[He's not going to forget the doctor thing.]

[bywolves]

I'll wish for it to go back to normal. [ He doubts Watson will be able to help. Especially regarding elf things - he knows Watson knows he's a half-elf but he's still fidgety about it. ]

[devoutish]

Mm.

[God, he hopes it doesn't come to that.]

[bywolves]

It's fine, Solomons. [ Royce nudges him a little. ]

[devoutish]

Well, I'm gonna worry.

[bywolves]

Worry when it's been longer. [ Royce says, shaking his head a bit. And then, he points - or tries to, with his coffee hand. ]

Do those look like stairs to you?

[devoutish]

-- Could be. Yeah.

[It's hard to see through the leaves and tree trunks, but there's definitely something winding up a tree in the direction that Royce is gesturing in.

When they're a little closer, it becomes clear that yes, that sure is a staircase. The bottom of the treehouse itself is just barely visible through the leaves.]

[bywolves]

[ And Royce grins, widely. ]

That's it. Come on. [ He practically drags Alfie to the stairs, letting go of him to climb up into it. ]

[devoutish]

You're gonna reach the top long before I do--

[Not only because he's going up the stairs first, but because he's probably taking them a lot faster.]

Shout down to me about how it is.

[bywolves]

[ He makes his way up into the house, running his hand along the wood. He tries to do it before Alfie sees him, but either way, Royce moves right up to the middle of the house, where the wood of the tree supporting the house up is still standing. He rests his forehead against the tree, hands on either side of the trunk, and murmurs a thank you.

And then he takes his time looking around. ]

Just big enough. [ Royce calls to Alfie, wherever he is. ] Has all the things I asked for.

[devoutish]

Can you hear the sea?

[bywolves]

[ He's quiet for a moment, closing his eyes, hand resting on the bark. ]

I can hear the sea. [ He confirms, smiling. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie appears at that moment, Royce's smile making him smile himself.]

Ah, look at this. You might not want to leave, eh?
