[He gestures to the cake, smiling back at her.]

I think we should both have another slice.

You'd better save some, you know. I won't be held responsible for sad faces when they come back to crumbs. [She leans up and kisses him.]

Of course I will. They'll get half of it, all to themselves.

And the other half meowstly to you. [She cuts herself a thin slice and him a thicker one ]

Oh, I don't know - I could do with the smaller of the two.

[He pats his stomach, which to be fair, is only a little paunchy.]

[She laughs and still hands him the thicker slice ]

And I'm working off the Capitol still.

[devoutish]

[Oh fiiiiine, he'll take it.]

I couldn't tell. You're beautiful.

[Grin ] Imagine you've never had chocolate before. Now imagine you can buy it practically anywhere.

You had no chocolate at all in Four?

[furgood]

Only if you could afford it. And it was proved beyond most people's means. Not even a once a year treat.

Mm.

[He's quiet for a moment, poking his spoon at his slice of cake.]

My mother grew up very poor; did I ever tell you that?

[furgood]

Oh? You didn't. [She takes a little bite]

Yeah, back in Russia. She lived in a village.

[furgood]

Russia? Never mind, it won't mean much to me, I'm sure.

[devoutish]

That's all right. I've never seen it; it's not as if I could describe it to you. It's very far from London.

[furgood]

How did she make it to London?

[devoutish]

She knew people who'd gone - others from her village, who went before her. She decided to follow.

[furgood]

Did she miss it?

[devoutish]

Parts of it. Yeah. She missed the life she had.

[furgood]

I can understand. Even if things are better, there are always things to miss. People, places...food. Community.

[devoutish]

Mm. She fit well into the community in London; there were lots of Russian immigrants. My dad's family were Russian immigrants as well, generations back. But it was no substitute for what was lost.

[He reaches out in response to that, putting an arm around her waist and giving her a squeeze.]
