[ Royce doesn't even think about asking Alfie to go hunting with him, for whatever reason. Maybe it's just the routine they've settled into - Royce catches food, and Alfie makes it. But Royce, for whatever reason, doesn't feel like going alone today, so he goes to hunt Alfie down in their house, adjusting his cloak. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie's puttering around in the kitchen, not so much cooking as shifting ingredients around, planning future meals. He has a hunk of cheese out and sitting on a slice of homemade bread, and that's the extent of his lunch-making today.]

Hullo, Royce.

[bywolves]

[ Royce hoists his butt up on the counter, as usual. ]

What are you doing?

[devoutish]

Getting ready to give you a great big shove.

[bywolves]

[ Royce just settles in, smirking a little. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie knees him in the thigh.]

[bywolves]

Ow. [ Royce says, loftily. ] I was going to invite you to go with me, but now I'm not going to.

[devoutish]

Go where, hunting?

[bywolves]

Mm. Did you want to come along?

[devoutish]

You're not going to expect me to kill wild animals with my bare hands, are you?

[bywolves]

[ Royce snorts. ]

No. I'll do all the small woodland creature murder. [ Is he being serious? Probably. Maybe. Who knows. ] You have a pistol, right? Take that. Or I can teach you how to lead them into traps.

[devoutish]

Why not both?

[He gives Royce's wrist a tug, trying to lead him into the bedroom. He usually keeps the pistol in a dresser drawer when they're home.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce lets him lead to the bedroom. ]

I can do both. Teach me how to shoot the pistol and I'll teach you how to skin a rabbit.

[devoutish]

Is that a threat?

[bywolves]

It is now.

[devoutish]

I'll teach you to shoot a gun if you skin all the rabbits forevermore.

[bywolves]

Deal.

[devoutish]

You'll bring something to protect your ears, yeah?

[bywolves]

Mm. Any suggestions?

[devoutish]

Earmuffs? Bits of cloth stuck in?

[bywolves]

I've got cloth, I think. In my bag.

[devoutish]

Then off we go. Cheese?

[He holds out the remains of his cheese and bread - wondering if Royce will take it, even though he didn't see him prepare it.]

[bywolves]

[ He actually hesitates slightly. There's a beat, and then he takes the cheese with a flat expression. He's fine. It's fine. ]

Let me go get the cloth.

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[Alfie's grinning. He'll gladly give up the rest of his lunch for this.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce scoots over to his bag and rummages through it for a second - when he comes back, the cheese isn't in his hands, but he's got this obnoxious neon purple cloth and a pair of scissors. He cuts some of the fabric so he can wad it into small earplugs. ]
