You're a bad influence, Alfie Solomons. [ He looks amused. ] Next thing you know I'll be hitting on every woman we run into.

[devoutish]

All two of 'em, yeah.

[bywolves]

Mm. It won't matter. Eventually I'll start sounding like you and they won't be able to understand me anyway.

[devoutish]

I've only flirted with two, you konw. Well, and thought about a third.

When there's only four women in Norfinbury to begin with, that's a high number.

You really have a thing for doctors. [ Royce has now relaxed completely into the couch and he sounds sleepy, almost. ]

[devoutish]

No, Norfinbury does.

[bywolves]

Mm. By that logic, it also likes criminals and superheroes.

[devoutish]

It does, yeah. And elven thieves.

[Though okay, that's only Royce.]

[bywolves]

Mm. No, I don't think Norfinbury likes elven thieves. [ He closes his eyes. ]

[devoutish]

[Awww, buddy.

Alfie lightly nudges his chin against Royce's shoulder.]

Pillows and blankets upstairs. Much better than down here.

[bywolves]

Quit trying to get me in bed with you. I'm married. [ Royce mumbles, half asleep. ]

[devoutish]

[DON'T SASS HIM ROYCE]

I set everything out. Come on. You're fading fast.

[bywolves]

[ GONNA ]

Mmph. [ Fine, fine. He actually feels - okay. It's nice. He shifts vaguely, like he's going to get up. ] Have to move my bags.

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[Alfie grabs up both their tablets, tossing them both into their respective bags. Then he sits up, taking his weight off Royce and moving to stand.]

[bywolves]

[ The weight was kind of comforting, in a weird way. Royce pulls himself up and pushes his hair back out of his face. His hood goes with it, and he doesn't bother pulling it back up. Royce looks tired, paler than he used to be, wan. Just the way it is, these days.

He grabs his bag and his various things he's gathered, and prepares to follow Alfie up the stairs. ]

[devoutish]

[He goes slowly. Stairs are hard, which is annoying, and he'll grumble about it under his breath as they go. And then of course there's another staircase ahead of them, on the way up to the second floor.]

Had to pick the basement, didn't you?

[bywolves]

Thought nobody would bother me down there. Obviously I was wrong. [ He'll help Alfie up the stairs if Alfie will let him. ]

[devoutish]

Impossible to avoid, that's me.

[Alfie lets him, especially on the second staircase. And once they're at the top, he breathes a sight of relief, sagging against Royce for a moment.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce gets an arm around Alfie's waist. He lets Alfie lean, helping him along after giving him a moment to rest. He doesn't seem to mind. ]

[devoutish]

[He's grateful for it, and when he starts walking again, he doesn't step away from Royce.]

The pain's getting worse.

[And it's worrying as fuck. How bad is it going to get?]

[bywolves]

[ Yeah. Royce has seen it. It's hard not to notice when you spend most of your waking hours with the same person. ]

I know. We've got pain pills. [ Royce reminds him quietly. He helps Alfie to the bedroom. ] We'll take rest days when we need to.

[devoutish]

We'll do what needs to be done.

[He sinks down onto the edge of the bed, which - true to his word - is already made up.]

Come on. Trying to get you into bed with me, aren't I.
