[ He doesn't answer. He's too busy trying to practically climb into Alfie's chest. The closer he is the less alone he feels. And he knows he should talk, he should get it out of his system, but the words aren't enough. He doesn't know how to describe how he feels. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie murmurs to him, quiet unintelligible words that even he, the speaker, would be hard-pressed to translate. They're just noises, really - a way to let Royce know that he's here, he's conscious, he's paying attention. He pulls the blankets closer.]

Do you wanna be in the treehouse instead?

[The treehouse that isn't partway underground.]

[bywolves]

[ He shakes his head. ]

Too open. [ Right now, the lack of space is what he needs. He feels much more at ease being covered, right now, with Bear at his back and Alfie at his front. It was terrifying, being in that place, and he knows he would've lost his mind if he'd been forced to stay down there. He noses into those unintelligible words, letting them wash over him. ]

I owe Strange. [ Royce mumbles. ]

[devoutish]

Nah, you don't. Don't worry about it, mate; we'll bake him some bread or something.

[bywolves]

That's not enough. [ He clutches at Alfie's shirt a bit. ] You don't know what he saved me from.

[devoutish]

I know he would've done the same for anyone.

[bywolves]

[ He swallows hard. Yeah, he guesses that's truth, it's just. ]

... Okay. [ His shivering is starting to ease up, at least. ]

[devoutish]

I'm grateful to him, too.

[He nuzzles closer, mouth against Royce's cheek.]

I honestly am. But I don't want you to worry about this.

[bywolves]

I'm not worried. [ Alfie's close, and how much care Alfie's putting into this warms Royce up, starts at the center of him and radiates outward. ] I just think I owe him more than bread.

[ Which isn't something he's happy about, but. He sighs. ] I'm - I'm okay.

[devoutish]

We'll bake him a lot of bread. Bread as far as the eye can see, mate.

[bywolves]

[ Royce makes a sound that could probably pass for amusement, brief and quiet. ]

I want bread. [ He says, finally, reluctant as he is to get up. ] Hungry. Really hungry.

[devoutish]

We've got bread. It's a few days old, though.

[bywolves]

I'll get it later. [ Hungry, but not enough to pull himself from the safe cocoon of blankets. ]

[devoutish]

I could bring it to you.

[bywolves]

[ His grip on Alfie tightens. Hesitantly: ] You could.

[devoutish]

Yeah. You want me to?

[bywolves]

... Yeah. [ He's okay. He'll be fine on his own. ]

[devoutish]

Ten minutes.

[Which is... longer that it would take to just get bread from the kitchen, but he plans to warm it up first.]

Yeah? All right?

[bywolves]

Yeah. I'll be fine. [ Mostly. He'll survive. ]

[devoutish]

[He kisses Royce on the cheek again, then goes to stand.]

I'm glad you like the dog.

[bywolves]

[ Normally, Royce might huff and puff about not liking the dog, it's just!! Useful!! Is all! But - right now, he's shaken, and he just makes a distracted noise of acknowledgement and turns to hide against Bear instead. Bear whines a little and rests his head on top of Royce's, bringing a paw up to sort of haphazardly rest on Royce's back. He's got him for right now, Alfie. ]

[devoutish]

[He does, and Alfie is grateful.

He shuffles out of the room, and while he'll be gone for a few minutes longer than just ten, it'll be worth it. He uses that time to warm up the bread on the stove, and cuts the loaves in half - slathering one with butter and one with marmalade, and leaving one plain. The result is far more bread than either of them are likely to eat, but they'll have plenty of options to choose from.]

Dog hair on the bed, breadcrumbs in the bed.

[He grumbles good-naturedly, setting the tray of food down on the bedside table.]

I made tea, as well. Thought about coffee, but you'll need to sleep.

[bywolves]

[ Tea and bread. Good, stable food, food that'll fill him up. Royce stays where he is with Bear, letting the dog lick at him every so often, not really moving. But when Alfie comes back, Royce pulls himself up - Bear grunts, not pleased with this development - and pushes his hair back out of his face shakily.

He leans back against Bear instead, trying to pull his head together. Dying is not new, but going through it and then slowly rewinding through it is. That on top of the Nightmare has him unsettled. ]

I don't want to sleep for a while. [ Royce tells him, and that's firm. ] We need... we need to wish for a TV in this house.

[devoutish]

Mm. I'd like to put one in the spare room, with the bookshelves.

[He climbs back into the bed, taking his previous spot.]

[bywolves]

Yeah. [ He curls up against Alfie's side again. He's not shivering anymore, at least - he still feels cold on the inside, but it's okay. That'll pass. ] Front room might be nicer. With the couches.
