I've got some myself that I'm trying to coax into him, but he doesn't trust medicine much.

Ask him what the average life expectancy is in his world. Mine's into the 80s for your average human with access to healthcare and modern medicine.

What I'm saying is that you do have access here. And my time and place are proof that they work. There are potential side-effects for everything, but we can manage those if they happen. Unless he is abnormally and severely allergic to sleeping medication, the worst he's going to be is maybe a bit drowsy in the morning. Maybe have a dry mouth. He will not die or be incapacitated.

We don't have the access that you have on your own world, and in the unlikely event that something did go wrong there would be very little that we could do about it. Yeah? That is a fucking fact. You cannot tell me you can't see his side here.

There's a difference between legitimate concerns about medication side-effects and paranoia, Alfie. What I see is someone who's refusing treatment that might have some mild negative side-effects when not accepting that treatment means very serious and very dangerous symptoms that might lead him to his death.

You said you're an odds man. His odds are far better taking the meds and risking the potential side-effects than not.

Medicine does very little against MN poisoning's symptoms. We've seen this.

But it does work intermittently. The sleeping pills aren't designed to address his mania, anyway. I'd be putting him on lithium if we wanted to do that. They're just going to knock him out.

I could, yeah. Prescribed it for someone else a few months ago when their mania peaked. My contact said it helps them sometimes. It's intermittent, but it's something to take the worst of the edge off.

He's going to ask about side effects and complications, you realize, and he'll be right to.

I think we're still okay for the specialized medications like lithium. She's been giving me a notice that low-grade painkillers are running low, though. I'm very concerned there gonna run-out in the very near term. And he's welcome to ask about side-effects and complications. I'll tell him what they are. Lithium's one to the most studied and well-documented medication for mental illness in modern medicine. It can be purchased over-the-counter like low-grade pain medications because it's considered safe for the vast majority of people. It's been used for the past 70 years for treating mental illness, including mania.

She does have Dr. Suresh's test kit. If there's a viable donor, she might be able to do a direct draw transfusion. That's got more risks than what we were planning with another set-up, though.
