[She doesn't want to use text with Alfie, but she also doesn't want to use video - for the eyes thing, to start with, but also the fact that she knows she looks drawn, more tired than she has in days. She washed her hands thoroughly after working on Kid - now fast asleep on a bench - but she still feels like she's got blood everywhere.

She probably sounds exhausted when she sends her message, but she'd feel weird not doing it at all.]

Hey, it's Claire. Made it the hospital fine, am with Kid. He's sleeping, now. I did what I could for him.

[She pauses.]

How was the travel for you? Everything okay?

Not bad. Yeah, walking in the tunnels is easier than walking in the snow, innit. But tomorrow we'll be in the open again.

[Which is good and bad. Walking will be harder, but he also hates the tunnels.]

[She looks up to Kid, still sleeping.]

Listen, I - I talked with Watson, yesterday, and he - [She stops herself, biting her lip lightly.] I just... I saw Kid and how hurt and scared he looked, and I started making plans without thinking too much about who I'd possibly be meeting. You were right.

You wouldn't have been able to help him at all if things had gone wrong because you didn't plan ahead. Yeah?

I'm not very sensitive. I will admit that.

I don't need patience. Understanding would be nice. I don't need to coddle me. That's not what I have interest in. Some flexibility, maybe. But I don't need to be treated with kids gloves.

I'm stuck here, same as you, Alfie. I just want to be useful, but I also need to be smart about it. I'm still - learning this place. I forget that I don't have the same safety net that I have back home. But it's not always easy.

We've made it to the entrance to the tunnels. We'll be out by tomorrow.

I'll talk with Kid when he's awake, see what he wants to do. Don't think he should be alone right now, and he should definitely not be going back to Stein, either.

Having a doctor with him isn't a bad plan. He doesn't cope well.

He's a very anxious kid, but he seems nice. Smart. Tried to save John, he explained to me. That's how he got his injury.

[She pauses for a moment, looking up at Kid again.]

You know, I wish I'd met you all under very different circumstances. Of course, that would mean you wouldn't have given me a second look, but everyone would be much healthier.
