[Alfie, meanwhile, has poured the extra hot water from the tea into a bucket that he's picked up, peeled off his socks, and stuck his feet in it. He looks up.]

Yeah.

You've been a good friend to me.

[devoutish]

[Oh, Royce.]

I don't know what I'd do here without you. Honestly.

[bywolves]

[ Yeah. He feels the same way. He closes his eyes. ]

Nothing really matters to me anymore. [ His voice is softer, now. ] If you weren't here I wouldn't move to another building. I'd just stay. Rot.

[devoutish]

You matter to me. I won't let you do that.

[Look at how sappy he's being without even having a drop to drink, Royce.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce would be more allergic to emotions and sap but he really can't find it in him to feel anything at all. He's just existing, right now. ]

I've only ever had one or two people tell me that. [ Royce says to the ceiling. ] It's a good thing you won't.

Yeah.

Hand me the wine, will you?

[bywolves]

Mm. [ He does hand Alfie the wine, staring out across the room. ]

Royce.

[He's not sure he can do the comforting thing very well right now, but by god, he's going to try.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce slowly looks over at Alfie. ]

Yeah.

[devoutish]

[Just gonna uncork the wine and pat your shoulder there, buddy.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce appreciates it. He leans a little more heavily against Alfie, shifting to adjust his hand wraps just to have something to do with his hands. ]

Don't bother with glasses. [ He's just going to drink from the bottle. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie's not complaining about this. Lean away, buddy; it's fine. He passes the bottle over, so Royce can have the first drink.]

[bywolves]

[ He's also glad Alfie doesn't have any issues with touch. Normally, Royce would, but. He trusts Alfie a lot. And it's nice to not be alone. He takes a drink from the bottle - or, well, a few. And then he hands the bottle back to Alfie. ]

Need to head back to the residential area soon.

[devoutish]

Mm. Sleeping on the floor is making me sore.

[Well. More sore than usual, anyway. He's already always sore. He can't blame the lack of mattresses for his sore hands and feet, though, which is worrying - that might be MN poisoning.]

[bywolves]

Yeah. That's why. [ Sleeping on the floor doesn't bother Royce, but he cares about what it's doing to Alfie. ] Should try to coordinate a cache for people to look through. Nobody will meet with us.

[devoutish]

Oh - some will, I'm sure. Supplying's needed, even if it comes from me.

[bywolves]

I saw your network posting. [ He raises his eyebrow. ] You either have people telling you they hate you or they want to try and steal something from you.

I don't put much stock in what Stephanie Brown says. Dr. Strange, though - I can work with him.

[bywolves]

Mm. He looked over my arm without making a fuss. [ Royce shifts that arm, pulling it closer to his chest. ] He's not bad.

[devoutish]

Yeah. It'll work out. There aren't many people here senseless enough to shoot themselves in the foot over this, and the ones who are have got more sensible friends.

[He takes a long pull from the wine bottle. Not bad stuff.]

[bywolves]

You'd be surprised. [ Royce will also take another pull from the bottle, when Alfie's finished. He just wants to be drunk. He doesn't care how it tastes. ]

[devoutish]

You've got a more pessimistic view of people than I do.

[bywolves]

Realistic. [ Royce corrects. ] People hold grudges. Enough to screw themselves over.

[devoutish]

Sometimes. Yeah. And sometimes they grit their teeth and bear it.
