[It's cold comfort, Alfie thinks; it's not enough. He stares at their hands, and then lets his fall onto his leg. Does it really make any sort of difference?]

[ There's a pause, and then Royce shakily pulls his hand back and curls it to his chest. Okay. He probably doesn't deserve it. It's okay. It takes him a long moment to figure out how to form words, and when he does, they're quiet and blank. ]

Should take Vicodin and sleep.

[devoutish]

Don't take Vicodin, mate. All right?

[bywolves]

Why?

[devoutish]

We should be saving it.

[bywolves]

For what?

[devoutish]

Grievous physical injury.

[bywolves]

[ There's a pause, and then he curls up further. ]

Okay.

[devoutish]

Do you want a sleeping pill?

[bywolves]

It doesn't matter. [ Make a decision. Don't be like this. Royce takes a deep breath. ] Yes.

[devoutish]

[Alfie kisses the side of his head, then digs out the bottle for him.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce stares out across the room, not moving much. He'll take the pill if offered, not bothering to sit up and drink water with it. He hasn't had anything to eat in a while. ]

[devoutish]

Here you go. You can open it up.

[He's just. Trying to get Royce to do as much for himself as possible.]

[bywolves]

[ Oh. Okay. He takes the bottle from where he's laying, obediently, and then proceed to struggle with opening it. He can't seem to do it and what's worse is he doesn't even seem to be humiliated by it like he used to, doesn't take it as a challenge. It's just another thing to occupy his attention. ]

[devoutish]

[But hey, he's focused on something - and so while there's no malice or spite behind it, Alfie just watches, not helping.]

[bywolves]

[ He tries for a good two minutes, and then just gives up. There's no fanfare, he just drops it and gives up, pulling his hands back under the blankets without a word. Fine. Whatever. Wasn't mean to be, he guesses. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie picks up the bottle. He fumbles with it too - cold fingers tend to do that - but he manages to get it open, and he shakes out two pills for Royce. Here you go, friend.]

[bywolves]

[ He reaches for the pills, and pops them into his mouth, swallowing hard. Before Alfie can close the bottle, Royce reaches out and holds onto Alfie's wrist. ]

You can, too. With me. It doesn't matter.

[devoutish]

I can what? Sleep?

[bywolves]

Yeah. With those. The pills.

[devoutish]

I don't need them, it's all right.

[He screws the top back on firmly.]

And you don't need more than two.

[bywolves]

[ There is a very small frown on his face at that, but he doesn't argue. He closes his eyes. Fine, okay. He'll just silently wait for them to kick in, then. ]

[devoutish]

[He threads his fingers through Royce's, and waits too.]

[bywolves]

[ It takes a while - thirty minutes or so - but slowly he starts to loosen up. He blinks his eyes open blearily, and stares up at Alfie, eyes fuzzy and vision slightly blurry. He's holding onto Alfie's hand though, stroking it idly every so often. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie meets his gaze, trying to look anything but tired and haunted. It doesn't work out so well.]
