[ Royce heads into the living room, settling down on the couch. Bear flops down at his feet, covering them, and Royce closes his eyes, just for a moment. It's warm, here. Comforting. He's okay. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie bustles around the kitchen, starting up the tea. He whistles as he works, more so Royce can hear him than anything else.]

[bywolves]

[ That's what he needs to calm him down the rest of the way. He eases into the couch, and actually probably dozes for the time it takes. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie makes a cup for both of them, and when he's done, he carries them over to the coffee table in front of the couch. Setting them down, he nudges Royce over until there's room for him to settle too.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce grumbles slightly, but he makes room, and rests his head against Alfie's shoulder with a little sigh. ]

Thank you.

[devoutish]

You're welcome.

[He murmurs.]

Sometimes I just like to watch the steam come off the tea.

[bywolves]

It's relaxing. [ Royce replies. Bear harumphs, settling more firmly on Royce's feet, and also Alfie's. ]

You're relaxing.

[devoutish]

[Alfie lazily rubs a socked foot against the fur of Bear's chest, giving him a scratch.]

I do try to be, with you.

[God knows Royce needs it.]

[bywolves]

I appreciate it. [ Royce murmurs. Bear makes happy dog sounds, sprawled out. ] You are always safe for me.

I was going to wish for what I did, and then come straight to you. You found me first.

[devoutish]

[He picks up one of the tea mugs, handing it to Royce.]

That was a tough one for you, eh? The whole thing of it.

[bywolves]

[ Royce takes it, sipping from it. There's a pause, as he thinks about it. ]

Mm. It was personal. [ Sigh. ] I'm okay. I think it helped, even if it was rough.

[devoutish]

I'm proud of you, mate. I really am.

[bywolves]

[ A small smile. ]

Thanks. [ He tilts his head back. ] You were a big part of why I went back, you know.

[devoutish]

Did you ever find mine?

[bywolves]

No, I didn't. I sat and talked with my Shadow for a while, though.

[devoutish]

Do you wanna talk about it?

[bywolves]

[ He sips from his tea. ]

I don't think there's much to talk about. We came to an understanding, and... I don't know. I feel better.

[devoutish]

You look better.

[Underneath the stress from the problem with Renart's Shadow, anyway.]

[bywolves]

I don't think I solved anything with... with Monty or Renart. [ He murmurs. ] But I feel like I can. And I think that's what is important.

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[He nudges his elbow lightly into Royce's ribs.]

That's a fucking relief, mate; I've been worried about you over this.

[bywolves]

I've been worried too. [ He glances up at Alfie. ] It's - well.

[ He lets Alfie feel the relief, the weight off his shoulders. The realization that he's not alone and doesn't have to be. ]

And - once the mental block happens, I'll be okay there, too.

[devoutish]

Do you think she'd do it to you when she's her whole herself?

[bywolves]

No. I don't. I don't think I can judge her based on what her shadow did.

[devoutish]

Will you be surprised if I say I don't either?

[bywolves]

[ He shakes his head. ] I'm not incredibly surprised, no.
