[Mission accomplished, because Royce laughing is always a good outcome. He rescues the undershirt from Bear, who'd started to chew on it, and takes it into the bathroom to put it in the hamper.]

I'm gonna get dressed properly, thank you.

[bywolves]

I refuse to lay in a bed with you after you've sweat through all of your clothes. [ Royce tells him, moving over to sit down on their bed. ]

There are short sleeved shirts in there. Wear one. [ He just doesn't want Alfie to overheat is all!! ]

[devoutish]

I'll shower off once we've gotten to the treehouse.

[He calls from the bathroom.]

I'll even bring a change of clothes.

[bywolves]

[ A pause, and then: ] Are you really that against showing skin?

[devoutish]

Mm-- I suppose it's not entirely that. It just seems strange, to me. Like wearing a swimming costume on the street.

[bywolves]

Hm. I suppose.

If you're uncomfortable doing it, don't, but I think nobody is going to give you a second look if you walk through the Meadous with a short sleeved shirt. They don't look at me.

[devoutish]

I'm not self-conscious about it. I'm just not accustomed to it, that's all.

[bywolves]

Okay. [ A beat. ] Put on a shirt, then, and let's go.

[devoutish]

Pants, too.

[Long pants. Someone please convince him to wear a full summer outfit. He'll even grab his hat when they're on the way out the door.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce just gives him a look. ]

You're going to have to change and shower before I get anywhere close to you, once we're there. [ Royce tells him, wrinkling his nose. ]

[devoutish]

Old habits.

[He says with a grin. But he is carrying a change of clothes along with him - a pair of boxers, and that tank top of Royce's that he'd tried on.]

[bywolves]

One day I'll train you out of those old habits. [ Royce huffs, nudging him. It's too hot for him to lean all up against Alfie like normal, but he does link their arms as they walk. ]

[devoutish]

[Bear and Lady follow; they don't stay right at their heels and they both make occasional detours to investigate things off the path, but they're clearly along for the ride here.]

That's very confident of you.

[Alfie says, nudging him back.]

But Mar's sake, surely I could just as easily have you picking up some of my habits instead.

[bywolves]

[ Royce laughs a bit at Mar's sake, making a face. ]

You already have me picking up on your habits. Mm, yeah, mate. [ Plus random slang. ]

[devoutish]

You sound like Ecks when you say that, not me.

[bywolves]

Not when I use it regularly, mate. [ Royce huffs at him. ] I'm sure you've heard it.

[devoutish]

Yeah, I have.

[And surprise, he really likes it.]

[bywolves]

Mm. [ He nudges him again. ] I don't really mind. I like knowing that I know you well.

[devoutish]

So do I, of course. I hope you never question that.

[bywolves]

No, I don't. [ A pause. ] You've been very dedicated to verbally making sure I know that you care, lately.

[devoutish]

Yeah, you've said before that it helps. Am I overdoing it?

[bywolves]

[ He smiles a bit. ] No, you're not. It's not a bad thing. I like it when you listen.

YELLS i thought i answered this this morning

[devoutish]

And I like listening to whatever it is that you have to say.

[He's a big old sap. And they're nearly at the library now, so he's just going to gently steer Royce towards the doors.]

[ Aw, Alfie. Royce heads towards the library, ushering Alfie inside. ]
