Yeah, we write back and forth often enough.

[bywolves]

What about? [ He really is just curious. ]

[devoutish]

Here. Home. The place she's in and her home.

[He pauses.]

You. We talk about you a lot. Good things.

[bywolves]

[ A beat. Royce remembers just a bit too late that he's got his emotions open, so Alfie gets to feel a flash of embarrassment - not bad, or anything. Just like oh, they talk about me. ]

Do you? [ He clears his throat. ] I'm sure you both complain about me as well.

[devoutish]

[Alfie grins, nudging him.]

We fawn over you.

[bywolves]

Mar, stop. [ Royce says, but he's not seriously upset. He's actually sort of amused. ]

We talk about you, too.

[devoutish]

Yeah? What do you say about me?

[bywolves]

[ Teasing: ] Good things. Bad things.

[devoutish]

Tell me the worst of it. Do you complain about my cooking?

[bywolves]

Of course I do. There's never enough of it, that's the biggest problem.

[devoutish]

Yes; yes, of course. What else?

[bywolves]

Why don't you ask her? I'm not telling you anything else.

[devoutish]

[RUDE]

I'll ask her for quotes.

[bywolves]

Mm. Be careful what you wish for.

[devoutish]

Ass.

[Alfie elbows him again. Then, after a pause, he adds:]

If you do need to get rid of this, mate, I'll understand.

[bywolves]

I know you understand.

[ But he feels displeasure at the idea, and Alfie can probably feel it. ] Let's not think about it until after I've even told her.

[devoutish]

If you explain why it's important to you, I think she'll understand.

[But-- okay. He'll try not to think about it.]

[bywolves]

I think she will too.

[ He sniffs a bit. ] Do you want to watch Return of the King with me?

[devoutish]

Return of the King, but not the first two?

[bywolves]

I'm in the mood to see someone win something.

[devoutish]

Come on, then.

[Gently, Alfie nudges him aside so that he can stand, then turns back around to hold his hand out to him.]

Let's go to the treehouse.

[bywolves]

[ Royce pulls himself up with Alfie's help, humming low in agreement. The treehouse is definitely where he wants to be, right now. And honestly, he sort of wants Alfie to know how the treehouse itself makes him feel. He'll see, when they get there.

For now, they can head over. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie is quiet on the walk over, head tilted slightly upwards to watch the trees and the sky as they go along. At the treehouse, he lets Royce go first; he's always faster on stairs than Alfie is.]
